Vanessa atalanta

This red admiral (Vanessa atalanta) is the first butterfly I've seen drinking from my new dwarf butterfly bush. Photos taken yesterday afternoon on my back deck.

Everything is very sharp and clear. The butterfly is amazing in the multitude of colors and patterns on both sides of its wings!

And what a thrill to find that little butterfly drinking from your plant!
I hope it's just the first of many.

Yes, it was a bit of a thrill! Although they're one of the most common species, I'm always excited when I spot their familiar red bands and fabulous underwing patterns.
