https://kosmofoto.com/2016/12/zorkipedia-zenit-fotosnaiper/I read of this Soviet Spy Rifle/Camera, the Photosniper and wanted to give it a try, so I built my own. Purchased a Rueger stock, Picatinny rail pistol grip and bipod, Vello wired remote camera trigger, later upgrading to a Nikon wireless. I shared my designs with some fellow photographers and the response was universal: You are going to get arrested or shot for being a sniper, dont do it. Of course I immediately took it to the nearest rural state park to photograph birds.
How did it work? Surprisingly well actually, although Ive not used it again, mainly due to holding up 10+lbs like a rifle for any length of time is a real killer. A Browing Automatic Rifle (BAR) is 20lbs and needs a bipod too. It is a niche tool, perhaps where one could not stand but be in a prone position, for some length of time, focused on a relatively stationary subject, because there is no panning to be had. I dont think a user could be confused with a sniper, its pretty obvious what it is and I put labels all over it. Here is my Photosniper and some of the shots from that day!

(483 posts).....the use of the word "picatinny" here on this website. "The Firing Range", sure, but not often here.

(9,797 posts)so I did a site search and I think I broke the search engine. This may be the first time ever.
I thought of painting the stock black but wasn't sure if that would be better or worse

(6,177 posts)Not sure it would be handy for pictures when standing but shooting prone from a blind this would be good. I think a regular tripod would be a pain to use when setting up low. I wonder if you can get teh stock in carbon.....
Great pictures also.

(9,797 posts)I went cheap, not knowing if it might end up in the trash after one days work, lol. I might try something more expensive next time. The grip and bipod slide along the picatinny rail, so for balance that is all adjustable, but the camera mount is old stationary manfrotto mount that is on all my cameras. I would want to change that to an Arca Swiss rail to then be able to balance the camera too
