Related: About this forumSunday Around The Farm -- Maddie and Pete got "pedicures" recently; their hooves were trimmed.
Seneca is our gifted barefoot trimmer. Shadow saw the car and ran to greet her.

Pete was first. Laurie held his head, Seneca started with the rasp.

The rasp is efficient, a nail file for horses.

Seneca likes to get to know horses and they build a trusting relationship.

She got out the nippers to clip his toenails.

Pete stood good. Maddie waited her turn.

Shortly thereafter she finished up with Pete.

Maddie was patient as Laurie and Seneca bent down to look at her feet.

Filing away. Shadow supervising.

Nippers.

Shadow loves to chew on toenails.

Maddie couldn't lift this hind leg enough for Seneca's nippers,
so she used a grinder to trim.

Her tool is a battery-powered Milwaukee Die Grinder.

They ended the pedicure with a hoof pick.

Laurie and Seneca scheduled the next visit, while Pete
and Maddie were only too happy to get back to their hay.

Thanks for visiting our farm. See ya next week.

(39,796 posts)You would have to have a strong back to work on horses like that for a living!! I would imagine not all horses are as well behaved as Pete and Maddie are for this experience. It is good that she establishes a trustful relationship with the horses.
As always, Shadow supervises every thing going on at your farm. Sophie would do the same.
TY for educating us on life on the farm with horses, George!
