(61,630 posts)I saw a kingfisher like that perched on the windowsill just outside my bedroom window one morning years ago. Really startled me - I'd never seen one so close, maybe 10 feet away - but there are lots of minnows in the small creek half a block away, and that creek has attracted other birds you'll find around water, including ducks and even egrets once. Also a bald eagle that first showed up, perching in an old tree leaning out over the creek, when it was still young and its head hadn't turned white yet.

Beautifully-crafted photo, BTW. Exposure, light, focus, and (I guess), patience!
