I read a comment from a different performance by Paul and Ford:
"Man, this guy's good! They should name a guitar after him!"

which is how everybody knows his name now. I heard this from a colleague who was a guitar player and she knew him pretty well in his later years.
And of course, he invented multitrack recording.
