A silly flaw in the script of a West Wing episode
The West Wing is, as my wife teases me, my favorite political fairy tale. I've watched many of the episodes repeatedly because they are so satisfying.
However, there's a silly mistake in the episodes, "In the Shadow of Two Gunmen." These two episodes come in the aftermath of President Bartlett's shooting and they are flashbacks to how Bartlett's team came together during his first run for president.
In the sequence where C.J. Craig is recruited by Toby Ziegler, she's awakened at 6:00 am in Hollywood by her boss who is a powerful talent agent and told to get to the office right away. When she arrives, she's confronted by Roger, a major studio head, who is angry that his films haven't garnered more success and awards.
Here's the kicker. Roger asks C.J. if she was aware that the Golden Globe Awards were announced that morning and his studio had received only two nominations. C.J. says that she wasn't aware of the announcements. That would be ridiculous! The Golden Globes are major awards and for an agent to not know they were being announced would be grounds for termination!
Of course, she does get fired but when she returns home, Toby recruits her for Bartlett's campaign.
In my decades of experience in the entertainment business, the Emmy/Grammy/Oscar/Tony/Golden Globes/Peoples' Choice awards are hugely important and industry professionals all anticipate their announcements. C.J., who is a consummate professional, would NEVER have missed such an important announcement!
Man, I must be bored or something to go down such an obscure rabbit hole this morning! I need more coffee. Have a great day, everyone!
