Sanam Vakil
Director of Middle East and North Africa Programme, Chatham House
A diplomatic standoff continues between the U.S. and Iran after President Donald Trump called off his negotiating team's trip to Pakistan to meet with the Iranian delegation. The President, saying Iran "can call if they want," added that the war could end soon. In turn, Iran has floated an initial deal that would require Washington to end the war permanently in exchange for the reopening of Hormuz. Sanam Vakil, Director of the Middle East and North Africa Programme at Chatham House, joins Bianna Golodryga to break down who is really holding the cards as diplomacy between Tehran and Washington reaches a stalemate. Golodryga joins the show from London.

In an intimate new account, "When We See You Again," Hersh's mother, Rachel Goldberg-Polin, chronicles her family’s tragedy and how she found the strength to carry on. The author joins Bianna Golodryga in New York.

Khiara Bridges
Author, "Expecting Inequality"/Professor, UC Berkeley School of Law
Earlier this month was Black Maternal Health Week, established to raise awareness of the disproportionate risks facing Black mothers during pregnancy and childbirth. Black Americans in the U.S. are more than three times as likely as white Americans to die from pregnancy-related causes. Michel Martin sits down with Khiara Bridges, whose new book “Expecting Inequity” explores why this disparity impacts Black Americans despite improved parity in wealth and education. The author joins the show from Oakland, California.
