Tucson 250th birthday celebrations

TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) — A plaque commemorating Tucson's 250th anniversary will be unveiled outside City Hall this afternoon.

The plaque recognizes the 250th anniversary of the founding of the Presidio San Agustín del Tucson on August 20, 1775. This event marks the official beginning of modern Tucson, though the area has been inhabited by Indigenous people for thousands of years.

The Tucson 250+ celebration is a year-long event honoring the city's rich history, heritage, and culture, and includes various events leading up to a major celebration on August 23, 2025, at the Presidio Museum. The "plus (+)" in "Tucson 250+" acknowledges the long history of the Indigenous people and diverse communities who shaped the region before and after the city's founding.
