SUDDEN DROP II : The Great Arizona Haboob of 202513:32
On August 25, 2025, forecasters predicted the potential for storms in Southern Arizona to generate strong outflows with the potential to create a large haboob (dust storm). I decided I would chase these storms as they initiated off the high terrain near Rio Rico, Arizona and follow them as they grew upscale to the northwest. We were able to safely and successfully document this incredible day including the moment the haboob overtook us in Casa Grande as well as driving carefully through the flood warned zones near Tucson. All in all it was a top tier experience of storm chasing in the desert southwest, and the North American Monsoon continues to offer extraordinary visuals and excitement for storm chasers, weather enthusiasts, and photographers.

(53,582 posts)1. That reminds me of the great dust bowl cloud in the 1930s
That dust cloud was enormous and moved all the way to the East Coast, just before a key vote in DC.

measured that line on Google earth. 50 miles! it was a 50 mile long haboob front. Not a good sign. Thank goodness it's raining now.
edited cuz I'm a clutz on the keyboard tonight
