Buckeye schools lose bond election, worry for the future

The Buckeye Union High School District did not pass its bond election on Nov. 4, meaning that the community did not authorize approval for additional funding.

“I think we really, truly have to start evaluating some things in our district and how we’re going to function and operate moving forward,” said Steve Bebee, superintendent. “The inability to have that money moving into next school year will have a significant financial impact on our district.”

A bond election approves funds for long-term projects, such as renovations and new schools. It’s different from an override election, which approves funds for operational expenses like salaries.

BUHSD requested $163 million in the now-defeated proposal.
