Sarah Sanders helicopters in for rice research center opening

The University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture opened their new Northeast Arkansas Rice Research Center Friday, with hundreds of people in attendance.

“This project, without a doubt, has been the most memorable and rewarding project of my career,” Timothy Burcham, Director of Northeast Rice Research and Extension Center, said at the opening ceremony.

Research done here aims to help delta farmers maximize profits, conserve water and protect the environment. Burcham also emphasized that the center will be a hub for youth education on one of Arkansas’s most important crops.

The center sits on 600 acres in Poinsett County, a few miles north of Harrisburg, in the heart of the Arkansas delta.
