Arkansas National Guard aids ICE in immigration enforcement with 40 personnel deployed
The Arkansas National Guard will assist Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with immigration arrests and enforcement across the Natural State, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced.
On May 9, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a formal request for Assistance to the Department of Defense (DOD) for the support of National Guard personnel in carrying out ICE "enforcement" activities. DOD approved the request on July 25, contingent on the governor's approval in each state.
Officials say that Arkansas will provide a total of 40 personnel: 27 Air National Guard Airmen and 13 Army National Guard Soldiers. 18 will be assigned to Little Rock, 10 will be assigned to Fort Smith, 10 will be assigned to Fayetteville, while a further 2 will be placed at Camp Robinson.
Operations will be fully funded by the federal government.
