That this painting should hang at the Arkansas state Captiol. I think it should hang at a lot of state Capitols.

"Ah, a period piece. I like it." That may be the problem. Periods are still a taboo subject among some, mostly older women.

At first glance, you wonder where the blood is coming from. As the woman appears to be unharmed in any way, you could assume that the painter is painting her on her period. It isn't until you really look at the painting do you see the other items around her which give a clue to what has happened. Rape isn't always as easy to spot as they make it out in the movies or one TV. Woman aren't always beat up.

It's a painting that would surely spark a dialog. Artists have always created art to say something, it's just that some people either can't or don't listen.
