Trump issued an executive order to drastically shrink the Presidio Trust, the federal agency overseeing San Francisco’s Presidio, a national park site at the base of the Golden Gate Bridge.

The Trust has not received regular annual appropriations from Congress since 2013, instead relying on revenue from leasing rehabilitated historic buildings and operating various businesses within the park, with funds reinvested into maintenance, operations, and improvements.

The order, citing a push to “dramatically” reduce the federal government, labeled the Presidio Trust an “unnecessary governmental entity.” Republicans argue that the Trust’s funds should be returned to the U.S. government rather than reinvested locally.
