Shasta County considers relocating elections office to vacant Joann Fabrics building

REDDING, Calif. — Shasta County's Clerk and Registrar of Voters, Clint Curtis, is proposing to move the elections office to a vacant building on Dana Drive, previously occupied by Joann Fabrics. The building has been empty since the company went bankrupt.

Curtis highlighted the advantages of the location, describing it as a "wide open space" that, with a proposed camera system, would provide transparency for every ballot and vote.

"It's available, which is one thing. The price is exceptional because they're basically saying that we can have it for $1.00 per foot. The price is, you know, good. The location is great. The amenities are perfect because we don't have to spend any money on it," Curtis said.

Curtis has discussed the proposal with county administrators and shown the property to some of them.
