Blue Lake mayor pro-tem faces recall election in 2026

BLUE LAKE, Calif. — The Humboldt County Office of Elections has certified petitions for a recall effort targeting Blue Lake City Council members. Still, only one councilmember, Mayor Pro-Tem Elise Scafani, will face a special election. The election is set for January 6, 2026, to consider her removal from office.

Blue Lake Interim City Manager Jill Duffy said, "The council has moved to hold the municipal election on Tuesday, January 6th of 2026. They could run between $8,000 and $12,000. We did ask council to go ahead and approve up to $15,000 in spending, and the source of that funding has not been identified yet."

Duffy added that after the election is held, the Humboldt County Elections Office will determine the vote, and the council will have 10 days to certify the results.
