Paso Robles mayor (R) will not run for re-election. 'A great honor and privilege'

Paso Robles Mayor John Hamon will not seek re-election this November, marking the end of his tenure as an elected official.

Hamon made the announcement at a City Council meeting Tuesday night, saying his decision came after “careful thought and discussion” with his family.

Hamon, who has been involved in civic service in Paso for around 40 years, will depart the mayoral seat with the inauguration of a new mayor in January. Hamon said he started his career with the city as a volunteer fire captain in the mid-1980s, followed by four years on the Planning Commission and 20 years on the City Council, including three years as mayor.

Hamon was appointed to the role of mayor in 2023, after the unexpected death of longtime Mayor Steve Martin.
