SACRAMENTO, California Californians in November will consider whether to add a voter identification requirement to the state constitution after a Republican effort qualified for the ballot.
The measure from Assemblymember Carl DeMaio, a San Diego Republican, would require voters to show ID at polling places or include an identification number on mail-in ballots. It would also make county registrars responsible for verifying registered voters citizenship.
It qualified for the ballot after gathering more than 962,000 valid signatures, according to the Secretary of States Office. The measure needed about 875,000 signatures for voter consideration.
Voters will be able to restore election integrity in our state, citizenship verification, auditing voter rolls and, yes, requiring ID to vote, DeMaio said in a social media video celebrating the qualification.

Theyre dead in CA.
