I brought Xavier Becerra your questions
Amanda's Mild Takes
I dont get involved in big primaries in states outside of Virginia, with a few exceptions, and this is one of them. November will be a blue wave election, and we cannot leave California whose citizens have fought so hard this last year behind to be led by a Republican. Becerra, who was HHS Secretary under Joe Biden and Californias Attorney General in the first Trump administration, has sued Trump more than any sitting AG, and I think that experience will be vital for the next leader of the state. Heres what I asked him (I sourced these questions from CA voters on social):
-What are his plans to actually make single payer healthcare a reality?
-What is his position on data centers in the state? How do we balance tax incentives with their damage to the environment?
-How will he realistically tackle affordable housing? I make a decent income and home ownership seems out of reach for me.
-Can he address the things Im hearing about how he protected police accused of misconduct by refusing to release their records when he was AG?
-Im concerned about donations from oil companies, since Trump is itching to open up drilling off the coast. What will Becerra do to make sure this never happens?
-Child care in California continued to rise. While families are paying more, many care workers are not receiving a living wage. Does Becerra have a vision to bring down costs while uplifting our care workers?
