Competing SF business-tax measures both failing early

Two competing and controversial San Francisco business-tax measures have fallen short on Election Day.

The two measures — Proposition C and Proposition D — received the bulk of political attention and political spending in the run-up to the primary election held Tuesday.

As of the ballot count Wednesday morning, 64.4% of voters had voted no on business-backed Prop. C, while 55.4% had voted no on labor unions’ Prop. D, which would hike The City’s Overpaid Executive Tax.

San Franciscans overwhelmingly voted to pass at least one piece of local legislation — Proposition A. As of Wednesday morning, 76.8% of voters had voted yes to support the public-safety infrastructure measure.
