Redding City Council candidates can begin filing Monday for November election

REDDING, Calif. — Anyone interested in shaping Redding’s future can now take the first official step toward a seat on the City Council.

Monday, July 13, marks the first day candidates can begin filing to run for the Redding City Council ahead of the November election. Three council seats are up for election this November, and candidates can start the filing process through the city clerk’s office.

To run for City Council, candidates must be registered voters who live within Redding city limits. Prospective candidates must pick up a candidate packet from the city clerk’s office, complete the required paperwork and collect at least 20 valid signatures from registered Redding voters before the filing deadline. City officials recommend collecting closer to 30 signatures in case some are not valid.

While council members meet twice a month, Redding Chamber of Commerce President Todd Jones said the role requires more than attending meetings.
