El Paso County defends election security after Tina Peters' claims
(COLORADO SPRINGS) El Paso County Clerk and Recorder Steve Schleiker is working to ensure the security and transparency of the June 30 primary election, with ballots set to be mailed starting Monday, June 8. These efforts come as former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters, recently released from prison, claims future elections will be rigged by Democrats.
Peters served more than 600 days in prison after being charged with breaching security after the 2020 election. Schleiker and his staff are working around the clock to prepare for the upcoming primary election, aiming to provide confidence in local elections, and confirmed his office is prepared for the upcoming election.
We are good to go, and we are getting ready to mail our ballots, Schleiker said. Ahead of the primary election, Schleikers office completed a logic and accuracy test by running 3,000 ballots for the Republican Party and 3,000 ballots for the Democratic Party. All the tabulators came up to exactly 100%, and that includes the hand-count of what the judges also voted and tabulated as well, Schleiker said.
Meanwhile, Tina Peters, former Mesa County Elections Clerk, who recently left prison, is reiterating her beliefs about election integrity. In an interview with Bannons War Room, Peters stated, I know that the Democrats are going to cheat, and no ones really addressing the problem that I spent my time in prison as retribution for, and that was exposing the election machines that allow the votes to be flipped.
