Special Election Ordered To Complete Term Of Guilford Official

GUILFORD, CT — A Special Election has been ordered by Gov. Ned Lamont to complete the term of Madison-Guilford Probate Judge, the Honorable Peter M. Barrett, who is scheduled to retire in on July 2, 2026.

The Special Election will be held on the same date as the next general election, which is Nov. 4, 2025. Barrett is one of three Connecticut probate judges who are slated to retire over the course of the next year.

Lamont is choosing to hold these special elections on the same date as the next general election because doing so will enable each impacted municipality to avoid any added costs of holding separate elections for this purpose, according to officials.

In addition to the Special Election for the Madison-Guilford Probate Court, the other two are the West Haven Probate Court and the Farmington Regional Probate Court, both of which have judges who are planning to retire in 2026.
