On the same afternoon that almost nobody was turning up for this, Dupont Circle was insanely packed with many 100s of people standing in long lines around the entire park area just because the Indian embassy was handing out free mangoes. 🧐

And yes, clearly attendance is WAY lower than the administration anticipated. There was no line whatsoever the whole time we were there despite preparations for a long one. Its not empty, but its very far from full.
A LOT of attendees were DC residents like us who were just curious to witness it.
No line to get into the fair despite preparation for a huge one

Went to the Great American State Fair out of morbid curiosity. Its not a total disaster, just ramshackle and kind of boring. The Temu arch is an embarrassment, as are all the weird MAGA cult displays (including a mock-up Trump passport). People working the event were nice and I felt bad for them.

By far the best thing about the Great American State Fair is that DC statehood activists have infiltrated it (with official permission!) and are lobbying attendees to support their cause. I saw several MAGA tourists receiving the polite but vigorous spiel for DC statehood and it warmed my heart.

Also just to be clear, most of those working the event were not MAGA. They were normal people helping with security, food, logistics, etc. I dont judge them and they dont deserve any hate. A small cadre of disproportionately white volunteers did appear to be MAGA and obviously thats different!

(71,613 posts)America 250 is the entity established by Congress to put on events celebrating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Indeprndence.
Freedom 250 is the entity established by Trump to hijack the sesquicentennial and put on rallies glorifying himself.
And good morning.

(71,613 posts)Like Pat Robertson setting up the ACLJ, with a logo that looks just like that of the ACLU.
Trump wants you to believe that an organization set up to benefit him is the official one.

(403 posts)opposite of what a celebration entails. DTrumps glorious fest to emphasize his particular vision of the America he is creating falls flat to the grounds he devastates. He did his overvalued brand no favor in this clown fair.
This dud is for the flag wavers who dream of an America that only exist in the authoritarian recesses of a demented man king.

(43,071 posts)That's the only reason people come to his rallies out in the fly-over states, they get paid to show up and act like assholes. Chump completely forgets that that was the only reason they came, because he paid them.
Now he's throwing this "state fair" and nobody is coming.... Well of course not. They aren't going to fly 500 miles to Washington for free.

How did that work out?
And good morning.

(12,867 posts)Aside for North Carolina's Confederate flag display, was the religious revival tent...what state was that from??...they were baptizing people right there and then.
And there were absolutely no chairs, benches or stands to sit on at the food tent or at the events on the grass. There were chairs in a few tents like the Christian revival tent and some states had them in their displays. Lack of seating is a sure sign of mismanagement and disorganization.
