Georgia
Related: About this forumApologies
I found a disturbing article on BBC about babies being sold at birth in Georgia. Turns out it was the country, not the state. So I deleted it. You can still read the article, if you're curious.

(21,962 posts)3. Georgia the kingdom dates from the 10th century.
So the newcomer here "stole" the name. From George II.
Wikipedia says:
English settlers arrived in the 1730s, led by James Oglethorpe. The name "Georgia", after George II of Great Britain, dates from the creation of this colony.
Is it better than Oglethorpe? Maybe. The latter certainly would be unambiguous. Ray Charles probably wouldn't have liked it. Props to Brother Ray!

(9,044 posts)5. Wow, what a weird coincidence
And both started in the 1950s. Of course 200 from the state versus 100,000 from the country....but still.

Thanks for sharing that.
Is the story I though you had posted!
