Special election to fill Dougherty County Ward 6 commission seat happening now

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - There is still time to get to the polls and vote for a candidate to fill the ward 6 commission seat.

The Dougherty County special elections for Ward 6 kicked off today at 7 a.m., and county leaders are encouraging voters to head to the polls.

Right now, there are two vacant city commission seats. The vacancies come after the death of Ward 6 Commissioner Demetrius Young and the sudden resignation of Ward 2 Commissioner Jalen Johnson.

Early voting for Ward 6 ended on Friday, March 14, with only 164 ballots cast and 10 absentee ballots returned.
