Early voting in Public Service Commission Democratic special election runoff starts Monday

Voters will be wrapping up the Georgia Public Service Commission special primary elections with a Democratic Party runoff. The five-member body regulates utilities in the state.

A single week of early voting begins Monday, July 7, and will run through Friday, July 11, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Floyd County Elections Center, 18 E. 12th St.

Election Day voting, Tuesday, July 15, will be at one polling place only — the Rome Floyd County Library — from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Georgia law allows the compression if less than 1% of a county’s registered voters cast a ballot during a political party primary election that leads to a runoff.

Just 576 of the county’s 64,789 registered voters cast ballots in the June 17 contest between Peter Hubbard, Robert Jones and Keisha Sean Waites, a turnout of 0.89%.
