Hawai'i County Democrats tradition continues 70-some years later with 2026 Primary Grand Rally

Hawai‘i County Democrats will host their 2026 Primary Grand Rally beginning at 5 p.m. July 25 under the bandstand gazebo next to Mo‘oheau Bus Terminal on Kamehameha Avenue. Hawai‘i Gov. Josh Green and Hawai‘i County Mayor Kimo Alameda will be featured speakers during the event.

All Democrats seeking public office and who will appear on the Aug. 8 primary election ballot — including those running for open statewide positions, Big Island state legislative seats, Hawai’i County Council posts and Office of Hawaiian Affairs board seats — are invited to participate.

The rally tradition — which began 70-some years ago — is more than just a chance for candidates to speak directly with voters. Community members before they vote get an opportunity to hear from the candidates themselves, in-person, about their priorities and platforms.

Candidates and their supporters also will sign-wave along Kamehameha Avenue during the hour prior to the rally, which is expected to last about 2 hours.
