Allen County Election Board presents voting center proposal, receive backlash
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) The Allen County Election Board's plan is to introduce voting centers which would take voting locations from 110 sites to just 39 sites for voters.
The election board says this will have a lot of benefits as they looked for the sites that were in central locations, have space for voters and parking and lessen the amount of poll workers needed while also paving the way for improved training for poll workers and better pay.
"Previously, we had it where you were assigned to a location on election day and if you were at the wrong location you have to drive back to the other one to vote and for it to be able to count this they can just show up at any location at their convenience on election day at one of them and be able to vote, Amy Scrogham, Director of Elections in Allen County said.
The proposal received mixed reaction from community members saying the idea of a voting center has potential, but the current plan isn't feasible for voters in a lot of areas like southeast Fort Wayne and could result in an even lower voter turnout.
