City of Maize asks for 1% sales tax with upcoming special election

MAIZE, Kan. (KAKE) - On August 5, voters in Maize will decide on a proposed 1% sales tax.

"Obviously, it's another tax," said Maize City Manager Nick Gregory. "Some people will look at it as just another tax."

But with early voting starting Thursday, it's a special election that could shape the city's infrastructure.

The tax is 1% -- that's one penny for every dollar.
