Tri-State election lawsuit alleges false records, possible crimes in 2024 election
UNION, Ky. (WKRC) - A new filing in a year-long lawsuit alleging election mistakes in Boone County in 2024 says that an assistant county clerk falsified records, improperly certified the results, and possibly tampered with official records, which would be a felony.
The filing is based on an affidavit by Boone County assistant clerk Stacy Adkins, in which she acknowledged the county board of elections never met in person to certify the 2024 results for local races such as the Union, Walton, and Florence city elections and races for school board positions.
Union City Commissioner Douglas Bine filed the suit in November of 2024 after losing his seat in a close election. The clerk's office has acknowledged some voters got the wrong ballots, leading to possibly hundreds of improper votes.
A judge threw out the Union results earlier in 2025, meaning the Union mayor appointed all four seats. That mayor eventually appointed Bine to the commission. A former firefighter from California who moved to Boone County 12 years ago, Bine was seeking his second seat.
