Union County election audit confirms one-vote victory in magistrate race

MORGANFIELD, Ky. (WEVV) — A primary election race in Union County decided by a single vote has officially withstood the scrutiny of a state-mandated post-election audit.

The hand-count audit of the 4th District Magistrate race yielded identical results to the electronic totals, confirming Ehren Schaffter as the winner over Dakota Jones by a razor-thin margin of 166 to 165 votes.

Kentucky state law requires these post-election audits after every primary and general election to verify the accuracy of voting machines and ensure proper ballot counting.

Under video surveillance and the supervision of bipartisan poll workers, the Union County Board of Elections opened a secured voting machine to cross-reference the physical paper trail with the digital tally.
