Nov. 15 election: East Baton Rouge Parish residents to vote on fire tax renewal

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Some residents living in East Baton Rouge Parish will soon vote on whether to renew a property tax that helps fund local fire services.

The Fire Protection District No. 6 Proposition would continue a 5-mill property tax for nine years, starting in 2026 and running through 2034. The proposal stated that the tax is expected to generate $351,194.50 per year to support the district’s operations.

If approved, the money will only be used for fire protection, according to the porospal. This includes keeping fire stations, equipment, and hydrants in good shape. It will also cover the cost of water for firefighting.

The proposal said this is a renewal, not a new tax. Residents would be paying the same rate that supports their local fire department.
