Nov. 15 election: Ascension Parish residents to vote on renewing drainage tax

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Some residents in Ascension Parish will vote on renewing a local property tax on Nov. 15. This tax helps pay for drainage improvements and equipment.

The West Ascension Consolidated Gravity Drainage District No. 1 is asking voters to renew a 4.67-mill property tax for another 10 years, starting in 2026 and running through 2035.

If approved, the tax is expected to generate about $820,000 a year. The proposal stated that the money would be used to purchase drainage equipment, fund special projects, and cover other infrastructure needs in the district.

The proposal stated that the renewal would not raise taxes. Instead, it will keep the current rate. This rate helps maintain drainage systems and lowers flooding risks in the area.
