Lafayette Parish sees decline in early voting for November election

LAFAYETTE PARISH, La. (KLFY) — Early voter turnout in Lafayette Parish has been lower than expected for the upcoming Nov. 15 election, which features only propositions on the ballot.

Officials in Lafayette Parish are urging residents to participate in the election, which focuses on renewing two millages for road and bridge work, drainage and public health.

Charlene Meaux-Menard with the Lafayette Parish Registrar of Voters, noted that voter interest tends to be higher when candidates are on the ballot compared to propositions.

“It just goes to show you it all depends what’s on the election, where people are interested in more than likely a candidate election over propositions,” said Menard.

i've worked many elections, and these millages and constitutional amendments should wait for the next "real" election.

i kinda think the pols do this to slip things under the voters' radar
