Louisiana early voting exceeds 2024 presidential primary early vote, data says

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE/KALB) - Early voting closed on Saturday (May 9) with more votes cast in the May 16 election than were cast early in the presidential primaries two years ago, according to state election data.

More than 206,749 votes were cast early in the May 16 closed primary election. That exceeds the 170,283 total early votes cast in the March 16, 2024, presidential primary.

In Cenla, Rapides Parish had the highest turnout with 4,985. Natchitoches Parish recorded 1,513 votes. Grant Parish had 701 votes. Vernon Parish had 1,625 votes. Avoyelles Parish had 1,612 votes.

Dillard University political analyst Dr. Robert Collins said the turnout is unusual for an off-year election......

Collins said the turnout has been especially high among Democrats and Black voters.
