Louisiana officials respond to released recordings of Donald Trump's 'offensive and indefensible' statements

Republican officials in Louisiana, where Donald Trump is expected to win easily, were not quick to join their colleagues seeking for Trump to step down as the Republican presidential candidate.

Only U.S. Rep. Ralph Abraham, R-Alto, responded to a request for comment.

“Donald Trump's comments are offensive and indefensible," Abraham said. "I would never want either of my daughters or my granddaughters spoken about or treated in that way. He was right to apologize for his remarks, but at this point he should strongly consider his path going forward. Hillary Clinton has proven over her 30-year political career of destructive policies and poor judgement that she is unfit for the White House. She cannot be allowed to win the presidency, so Mr. Trump should consider whether he needs to step aside and allow Gov. (Mike) Pence to lead our party to victory in November for the good of the country."

U.S. Majority Whip Steve Scalise, of Jefferson; Republican congressmen Garret Graves, of Baton Rouge, John Fleming, of Minden; and Sen. David Vitter, of Metairie, did not respond to calls, emails and text messages to multiple members of their staffs.
