SPOTLIGHT RACE: Chip Curry for ME-SD11
Senator Chip Curry, who resides in Belfast and previously lived in Knox and Unity, is deeply dedicated to Waldo County. His wife, Christi Goosman, has taught Social Studies and Theater at Searsport District High School for over almost 30 years, and together with their daughter, a recent RSU 71 graduate, they are a family firmly established in Waldo County.
Throughout his career, Senator Curry has focused his work on helping individuals of all ages overcome challenges and reach their full potential. In the 1990s, he taught at Unity College, where he led courses in outdoor leadership, environmental stewardship, and civic engagement, fostering a commitment to both personal development and community service.
For over a decade, he worked with the Governors Childrens Cabinet, leading initiatives to strengthen community-based efforts to reduce child poverty and protect children from abuse and neglect. For much of the last decade, he has assisted adult students returning to college, helping them develop the necessary skills and earn credentials for good-paying jobs.
In the legislature, Senator Curry serves as the Senate Chair for the Joint Standing Committee Housing and Economic Development, and he is also a member of the Joint Standing Committee for Criminal Justice and Public Safety. He serves on the Maine Fire Commission and Chaired the Blue Ribbon Commissions to Study Maine Emergency Services. Locally, he is on the board of Waldo Community Action Partners and volunteers building sets for Searsport District High School Theater.
