Boston 2025 Election Guide: What You Need to Know
Boston voters will head to the polls this fall to vote for mayor and city council seats. Here's your essential South End guide to the races and key dates.
Incumbent Mayor Michelle Wu faces three challengers in the September 9 preliminary election: retired police officer Robert Cappucci, community organizer Domingos DaRosa, and Josh Kraft, business and nonprofit executive.
All four incumbents are running for re-election: Council President Ruthzee Louijeune, Julia Mejia, Erin Murphy, and Henry Santana. They face several challengers including: Frank Baker, Yves Mary Jean, Marvin Mathelier, Rachel Nicole Miselman, Will Onuoha, and Alexandra Valdez. More than eight candidates qualified for the ballot, triggering a preliminary election where the top eight vote-getters will advance to the November general election.
Eleven candidates are vying to replace Tania Fernandes Anderson, who resigned after pleading guilty to federal corruption charges: Said Abdikarim, Mavrick Afonso, Said Ahmed, Wawa Bell, Tchad Cort, Miniard Culpepper, Samuel Hurtado, Natalie Juba-Sutherland, Jerome King, Shawn Nelson, and Roy Owens.
