Capital punishment in Michigan was legal from the founding of Sault Ste Marie in 1668 during the French colonial period, until abolition by the state legislature in 1846 (except nominally for treason).

(35,448 posts)2. I am against it. If you are going to have it, to insure the person is
guilty beyond a shadow of doubt, add this to it. If the person is later found to be not
guilty, the judge, jury and prosecutor shall be put to death for murder.
I say this in jest, but not a bad idea.

I am not a pacifist, I think killing in self defense should be excused. I think killing in defense of others, such as family, is understandable. While under attack, emotions rise and take over, the instinct to survive overcomes rational thought. But I do not think a government should coldly kill its own subjects. Especially months or years after the crime, when the perpetrator is already confined. I do understand and accept the way death penalty supporters feel, this is just my personal opinion.
