Flint city councilman accused of election fraud

GENESEE COUNTY, Mich. (WNEM) — A Flint city councilman has been arraigned on a new felony charge while awaiting trial by jury for a domestic abuse claim.

Court records indicate that on July 13, Leon El-Alamin was charged with one count of falsely swearing to register to vote on April 12, 2024. This was nearly three weeks after his appointment as an interim first ward city councilman to succeed Eric Mays.

In November 2024, El-Alamin won a special election to complete Mays’ term.

A bond was set for $5,000. El-Alamin is scheduled for a probable cause conference on July 23 at 11 a.m.
