After a water outage early Sunday morning, residents in Crystal, Golden Valley and New Hope are now under a boil water advisory. Residents of the three cities, as reported to 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS on Sunday morning, said they were unable to get water in their homes and were experiencing low pressure in other areas.
Crystal, Golden Valley and New Hope operate a joint water commission, which manages a water supply, storage and distribution system for the three communities.
According to the city of New Hope, the issues are due to a malfunctioning valve in the Golden Valley water tower, which occured sometime Saturday night.
As work continued on restoring water and pressure to the communities, a boil water advisory was issued for all three cities by the Joint Water Commission. The water pressure issue has been resolved, but the water will still require approval from the Department of Health before the advisory can be lifted. Testing was ongoing as of 12:35 p.m. on Sunday.
In the meantime, the city said residents in Crystal, Golden Valley and New Hope should boil their water before drinking it, using it to brush their teeth, or cooking with it, or use a safe alternative like bottled water until the advisory is lifted. To ensure the water is safe to use, it should be brought to a rolling boil for one minute to kill bacteria, and then cooled before use.
A statement will be issued when the advisory is lifted.

(12,098 posts)An HOA board member said it was about 800 AM in an email she sent 813 AM. She apparently talked to the city and was told it was a water main break (it wasn't - your article and the Strib says it was a malfunctioning valve on the Golden Valley water tower). Nothing about boiling water in her 813 AM email.
The first notification from any state or local authority I got was a text message 954 AM. (I don't notice text messages unless I'm near the phone, or check for them all that often so I didn't see that til later). Then I got an emergency thingy kind of like an Amber alert 1035 AM where it beeps loudly repeatedly and flashes a message on the screen. These all had the boil water advisory.
This seems to be like a pretty long time to be notified.
I'm in Golden Valley and they are updating the water alert. Since the original, they have had two updates as of this posting (they don't time-stamp anything, just date-stamp) -- https://www.goldenvalleymn.gov/
The latest as of 406 PM:
blah blah de blah ... "It takes 1618 hours for results to come back, so the advisory will remain in place for at least 24 hours. When lab testing is complete, the information will be shared here as soon as it is available."
No problem, I have some stored water that will easily last, so no need for me to boil anything.
From KSTP article in OP: "After a water outage early Sunday morning,"
I didn't experience a water outage, but then I don't leave a tap running so that I can monitor constantly! This is the first time I've heard of a water outage ... the alerts and the Golden Valley website and the Strib article I looked at an hour ago didn't/don't mention an outage.
All 3 cities are heavily Blue ...

Boil Water Advisory Lifted
The boil water advisory issued July 13 for all water users in Crystal, Golden Valley, and New Hope has been canceled. Water quality testing completed by the Minnesota Department of Health has confirmed the water is safe to drink and use as normal. Water users no longer need to boil water for drinking, cooking, or brushing your teeth. All residents and businesses may resume regular water use.
So, 2 hours shy of 1 1/2 days since I first noticed low pressure
Edited to add The clowns could have at least sent a text and/or email letting us know it's OK now. The only way I found out is by checking their website every 3 or so hours. And as I mentioned earlier, they took quite a long time to notify us in the first place of the problem.
