Boone County voters approve senior property tax freeze expansion

COLUMBIA — Boone County voters approved an expansion for the senior real estate tax freeze in a special election Tuesday.

The measure, which appeared on the ballot as Proposition 1, is an expansion of the existing freeze on real estate taxes for some people 62 and older.

Boone County Presiding Commissioner Kip Kendrick said the county is anticipating around 10,000 parcels to apply for the existing senior real estate tax freeze this year. He said this new measure won't change enrollment for people already in the program, and the freeze on the bond debt tax will automatically be applied to their 2025 application.

Under the program, eligible citizens would not pay any more in public bond debt taxes than they do this year.
