Springfield City Utilities announces free bus rides on election days

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) -Starting with the election on Aug. 4, Springfield City Utilities will be providing free rides during all future election days.

The goal is to make voting more accessible. Tuesday is the start of absentee voting for the Aug. 4 election. City Utilities made the announcement as part of its Transit Appreciation Week.

“I would like people to understand we really do try to connect our community,” said Matt Crawford, CU Director of Transit. “We connect people that need us or choose to use us with the services that they need. Education, medical, entertainment, jobs. We try to make a good connection for the community as best we can.”

On Monday morning, riders were given thank-you gifts. Tuesday is Dispatch Appreciation Day, which celebrates the people who keep the buses on track and coordinated.
