Hello, DU Montana folks! I posted this in General Discussion, but thought it might be a good idea to post it here, too:
I am working with a small but scrappy group of dedicated Dems here in the beautiful Bitterroot Valley of western Montana to help our Democratic candidate, Evan Schroedel, defeat the Republican currently holding the Montana State House District 88 seat (Florence and Stevensville, MT).
We would appreciate it enormously if you could pitch in to help Evans campaign. Here is Evans ActBlue link:https://secure.actblue.com/donate/hd88-1?refcode=directory.
You can also contribute on his website at:
Evan is on Facebook, too, at: ]https://www.facebook.com/evanschroedelforhd88/.
Evan is a fifth-generation Montanan, an Army veteran, a retired railroad engineer and union representative, and just an all-around decent, caring, intelligent, and down-to-earth guy. Above all, Evan is running for the right reason: to improve the lives of ordinary Montanans by tackling the crucial problems we Montanans face, such as the skyrocketing cost of living in this gorgeous state, which is being driven largely by all the super-wealthy out-of-staters moving here and buying up vast amounts of Montana land. The Last Best Place is turning into a playground for the super rich.
Speaking of out-of-staters, Evans opponent, Republican attorney Greg Overstreet, is a blue-state refugee from Washington State. Overstreets highest legislative achievement thus far has been to make rodeo the state sport of Montana.
Nothing against the rodeo, but we have much bigger fish to fry than naming the state sport, for example, our current battle against U.S. Critical Materials (a Canadian company) that is ramrodding through a mine at the headwaters of the Bitterroot River, which is the lifeblood of the Bitterroot Valley.
Plus, weirdly enough, Overstreet has a secret identity: As survivalist Glen Tate, Overstreet authored a dystopian, antigovernment, ten-book series called 299 Days. Overstreet, under the name Glen Tate, also hosts a survivalist podcast called Prepping 2.0.
Call us crazy, but we Montana Dems like people in government who are not antigovernment survivalists preparing for the end times and who conceal their true nature and extreme beliefs from voters by using an assumed name.
If you feel the same way, I hope you can pitch in to help us get Evan Schroedel elected to MT House District 88. Thank you so much in advance!

And thanks for reading my post on Evan Schroedel. He really is a great candidate facing an uphill battle in a deep-red county. It would be exquisite for him to unseat Greg Overstreet!

(2,658 posts)there were about 13 Republican candidates (for various Montana races) in attendance and just 4 Dem candidates, including Evan, so yeah, we are outnumbered! But Evan more than held his own against the Republicans who made such statements as:
"We need to protect our children against those public teachers making decisions behind closed doors about our kids' education!" (Uh, you mean, like, during teacher in-service trainings? Or do you mean behind their closed doors at home when they are grading your kids' homework during their own personal time because their schools are understaffed and classrooms are overcrowded?)
And this gem:
"We need to make our public lands more productive! We should sell off our public lands and use the money to build a park for mothers pushing strollers who can't hike all those mountain trails!" (Excuse me, but the Montana mothers I know are hiking those mountains with their babies in their baby backpacks, and they would leave you in the dust trying to catch your breath!)
And finally:
"The solution to lack of affordable childcare? That's an easy one: family members. Grandparents need to step up and help out!" (Sorry, but many Montanans moved here from out of state and don't have family members nearby. Plus, not all grandparents are able or willing to babysit while their children work full-time to make ends meet.)
But the highlight of the evening was when an attendee at the event visited Evan's table and whispered to him: "You are going to be the first Democrat I have ever voted for!"
There is hope! Thanks again, everybody! And in case you missed that post with his ActBlue and other links, here you go:
