Carpenter 1 Fire - Mt Charleston (outside Las Vegas)

has been declared the "priority fire" in the West. 800+ personnel fighting this one, so please spare a thought or two for those brave folks battling fire on this mountain.

It's a bad one. If the wind shifts it will cause big smoke problems in Vegas.

The wind has shifted from yesterday - it was blowing it east/northeast. Now it's south/southeast. The sun looks kinda like the Eye of Sauron.

Somebody said the fire has jumped into Kyle Canyon, but I haven't been able to confirm it. That would be very, very bad.

803 firefighters - 18 hotshot crews. Wretched terrain and shifting canyon winds. Buildings can be replaced, people can't be. Trying not to worry too much.
