Bill Clinton on the campaign trail in Keene
KEENE — Extend the hand of friendship to supporters of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, but give the keys of the truck to Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, former President Bill Clinton told a crowd at Keene State College Monday afternoon.
Clinton told voters they have three weeks to empower themselves to vote for Hillary and to try to convince their neighbors to vote for her as well. Clinton likened the presidential election to giving someone the keys to a truck.
“If you do not want someone to drive the truck over the cliff, don’t give them the keys,” Clinton said. “She’s the best change-maker I’ve ever known. If you give her the keys to that truck the first thing she will do is go open the back of the truck and put everybody on. No matter how mad they are at her … Then she’ll drive that truck to the highest mountain this country has ever seen. That’s what you should tell people.”
Not all Trump supporters are racists, sexists, bigots — some are just hurting, Clinton said. He asked the crowd to treat Trump voters well.
