Veteran incumbent loses in Ewing
Ewing Democrats have tossed an 81-year-old veteran councilwoman and replaced her with Carl Benedetti, Jr., a 36-year-old former three-term school board member and zoning board chairman.
Benedetti defeated Kathleen Wollert, who served as councilwoman in the 1990s and then returned in 2012, 2,749 to 1,915.
Councilwoman Sarah Steward was the top vote-getter in Tuesday’s primary election with 3,234 votes.
Local Democrats denied party support for Wollert’s re-election bid and backed Benedetti.
