Latest ballot count in Queens DA race puts Melinda Katz ahead of Tiffany Caban by just 20 votes

Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, who had seemingly lost her bid to become Queens District Attorney, may get the job after all.

On Wednesday, the Board of Elections did a count of roughly 6,000 paper ballots, a week after Progressive challenger and public defender Tiffany Caban declared victory over the Queens Democratic machine and its handpicked candidate, Katz.

But at the end of the count, with the campaigns of both candidates at the Board of Elections challenging the validity of ballots and carefully tracking the changing margins, Katz led by a razor-thin edge of 20 votes.

Caban was the unofficial winner on June 25 with a lead of approximately 1,100 votes before paper and absentee ballots had been tallied.
