Cuomo Unveils Updated Plan to Expedite New York Vaccine Process

Gov. Andrew Cuomo detailed an updated plan to expedite the vaccine process in New York after saying that the process was moving too slowly.

snip

Special Efforts
The "special efforts" part of the distribution process will focus on state-sponsored efforts, according to Cuomo, which include setting up vaccination drive-thrus and pop-up locations in churches, community centers and other locations as well as social equity efforts to reach the most vulnerable populations, including the Black and Hispanic communities.

Preparations Underway to Vaccinate Public
According to the governor, the state is already underway in organizing and preparing its vaccine distribution plan for when inoculation becomes available for the general public starting with the roughly 2.5 million individuals who fall into the 1b category -- next on the list to get vaccinated. This group includes essential workers and those 75 years old and up.

Cuomo said that this "distribution system is going to outpace our supply system right now," describing being overly prepared as a good thing.

Currently, the state has identified 3,762 vaccination provider sites who will form part of the "retail" network part of the distribution plan. These sites are comprised of pharmacies, private urgent care clinics, county health departments, federally-qualified health centers and private doctor networks. Of those sites, 636 sites are already administering vaccines to eligible healthcare workers along with hospitals. (Cuomo noted that although he refers to these sites at "retail," the vaccines are free for all individuals.)

Think I mentioned that my friend who works in the ER of the local hospital had to drive an hour down to Ellis Hospital, major hospital in Schenectady, to get the first of the two Pfizer inoculations. I'm guessing they don't have adequate refrigeration here - and she said there was quite a waiting line, but at least she got it. However, she's currently on a 10-day quarantine since 2 cases were brought into the hospital here - but she's still required to go to work. They've also closed several local schools - due to a spike in cases, the result of "holiday gatherings," the worst it has been thus far. What does it take??

Yesterday I was complaining about there not being enough information, and today........... voila! Usually at this time of year in the North Country you could set the vaccine outside and it would keep, but it's been an unusually mild winter so far in Western New York. I hope you don't have to drive too far for the vaccination, but the drive is well worth the trip. Right now I'd drive to California if I could get the shot.

For some reason, I seem to get Cuomo/Covid updates regularly on my phone - and when I got the first one, I immediately thought of you and made the decision to post it. And while Searching for it online, I came across this one, as well - important (and welcome!) news for New Yorkers!

And we don't yet know exactly where the vaccines will be administered, but at least they're deciding which is encouraging. As I said, my friend who works in the hospital ER had to drive over an hour to Ellis in Schenectady to get the Pfizer vaccine, but now they've vaccinated nursing home patients, and we know that wasn't expected of them.

And I'm with you, I'm more than willing to drive to Albany myself (about an hour) to get the vaccine as soon as my opportunity comes up. I'm just hoping that they start moving faster on implementing the vaccination program now that we have both Cuomo and support on the national level behind it!

Here's hoping that you get yours soon!

yesterday morning after seeing the link......somewhere??? Everything has been a blur the past few days. Anyway, I got TWO updates during the day. Cuomo is right on top of this. I'm so happy to live in a blue state with a Governor who cares about people over politics.

I'm feeling very upbeat after Georgia's support for democracy yesterday. I know President Biden and Vice President Harris are going to be a shit-ton (that's an actual unit of measurement, look it up) more competent and empathetic than the Orange Anus could ever hope to be. Yep, things are looking pretty blue this morning, and it feels like the weight of the world has been lifted from our country's collective shoulders.

Stay healthy, and sooner than you know it we'll have our vaccinations and maybe, just maybe, life will slowly return to somewhere near normal. Cheers!

(Despite the snow!) Governor Cuomo has emerged as the national leader on this pandemic, other states should follow his model and the country would be in much better shape than it currently is. *sigh*

And I'm glad to hear you're getting updates on this! I don't live near any big city, but I'd gladly return to Albany (I was born there and my dentist is still there!) If I had to to receive the vaccine.

And you're right, suddenly things are looking up after these bleak 4+ interminable years. If Georgia can turn things around literally overnight, we ought to be optimistic about our future here in New York.

Hang in there and stay well!
